A good quality transport system is essential to support the local economy and the quality of life for the people in South East Dorset. We're undertaking a major study to identify the improvements that are vital for the transport system in the area.

South East Dorset has probably fallen behind other parts of the South West in the amount of investment in transport. This study is aiming to change that, by providing the evidence to Government to justify improvements to the transport system. It will take on board the expected growth in people and jobs in the area over the next 20 years.

The £2.2 million, 4 year Transport study has been commissioned and jointly funded by the SE Dorset Study partnership, made up of the Highways Agency, Department for Transport, South West Regional Development Agency and Poole, Bournemouth and Dorset County Councils, with Borough of Poole taking lead responsibility. Atkins, one of the UK's leading transport planning consultants, was selected in June 2008 to assist in the technical and strategy development work for the study, which will run until Autumn 2010.
